Old Blog Entry 01-28-06

Update, still cut off from the world

Well, we all made it home in one piece...barely! We ended up missing our flight. Stupid Dallas airport has their car rental return about 5 miles away from the gate. It took us too long to go return the car, get all of our stuff together, and get back to the terminal. We ended up taking a later flight, but we lost our first class seats. It was okay though, because they gave us three seats in a row, so it was actually nicer than first class. Natalie had room to sit in her own seat. I was so happy to be home!!

We still have no internet access at the house. The phone company is supposed to call me on Monday to let me know when it should be up and running, but we are looking at mid-February right now. Just add it to our ever growing list of complaints for this builder. It has been one thing after another. The cabinet company sent a guy out last Wednesday to fix all the cabinets. It was a two person job at least, but they only sent one guy. He worked his little fanny off, but we still didn't have time to touch the upstairs cabinets. And he didn't have time to clean up his messes. We had wood shavings and sawdust over all the counters and the floors, not to mention a nice big pile of it on our front porch. I felt bad for the guy, but I was really upset that he didn't clean up after himself. Though, on the plus side, they did install crown moulding on the top cabinets, even though we never upgraded that. They just installed it and I didn't say anything. >:o) Hey, it's the least they can do for all the crap we've been through. Did I mention that they took out our walkway a few weeks ago? I walked by the front door and I see the workers shoveling the last bits of broken concrete onto their truck. Our walkway from the sidewalk to the porch was gone. No one notified me or knocked on the door or said anything. They just took it upon themselves to tear it down. They didn't speak much English, so all I got from them was that it wasn't centered to the front door. Well, when they put it back, it wasn't centered to the front porch. It looked terrible, not to mention that they trampled on the sod and some of the plants. Barratt apologized profusely and said they would fix the grass and plants and put the walkway back. Well, they finally put it back the day before I left. I saw it for the first time Wednesday morning and the thing looks terrible. It's all grooved, like they did a half-assed job of smoothing it out because they were in a hurry. It's not acceptable. I complained about that too, and they said they would fix it. This house is just something else, I'm telling you.

Anyways, I am out here visiting MIL today. DH is racing his cars down in Huntington Beach, so I am stuck here. I am going to escape as soon as I can to go home though. As much as I love being online and reading what I can, I'd prefer to be in the comfort of my own home. I'll get this posted and try to read some posts before I go. I don't know when I'll be back...hopefully next week. I miss you all!!!

P.S. Natalie is still not walking, but she learned a new word! She says BALL!! Well, it sounds like "baw", but she has it! She loves balls! Hey, get those minds out of the gutter ladies! LoL :oP
